Product Description
The pick-up pattern of the built-in microphone on camcorders is omni-directional, meaning that it picks up all sounds in every direction equally, no matter which direction you point the camcorder. The ECZ-990 is a 6" long directional, or "zoom" microphone with a super-cardioid pattern (ellipse shaped). It will pick up your subject's sound more clearly, reducing side noises. With 2 positions, narrow and wider, the ECZ-990 has a range of 35 feet, uses 1 "AAA" battery, and comes with a windscreen, shoe mount and hook-and-loop mounting tape. Top to learn more
Good product for the money
I just bought this microphone today from a local video camera store, after testing a number of the other microphones that they had, including the "Canon Directional Stereo Mic (DM 50) for Camcorders with the Advanced Access Shoe", "Rode VideoMic directional Video Condenser w/microphone", and the "Sennheiser MKE 400 Shotgun Microphone".I recently bought a refurbished Canon HV20. I went on vacation with it without testing it, and when I got home, I realized how poor the audio really was. I had read that the built-in mic captured the sound of the tape winding in the camera, but I didn't think it could possibly be as loud as it was. Also, often I'd be talking to someone literally two feet in front of the camera, and found people ten feet behind the camera were louder! Anyway, I realized that an external mic was absolutely necessary.I brought my HV20 to the video store and I spent an hour testing out the mics. I ended up buying the "Azden ECZ-990 Super-Cardioid... Comparison of on board microphone vs. ATR3350 microphone on Canon HF200
Customer Video Review Length:: 5:05 MinsI test the microphone on a Canon HF200 camcorder at the beach with both Ocean and Creek noise in the background. The difference is quite remarkable. Don't turn your speakers up too loud, as the volume changes quite a bit when I go from on board to lavalier microphone. Note that I had to actually LOWER the volume during edit because the Audio Technica mic would have clipped, otherwise.During video editing I made the following adjustments:Sound track +4db (to compensate for excessively quiet on board microphone)Just the ATR3350 segment -3.4db (to compensate for the Audio Technica microphone being so loud)Final analysis: If I was using JUST the lavalier microphone, no adjustments neccessary and...

Great lapel mic for the price
The Audio Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone appears to be a nearly identical replacement lavalier mic from the recently discontinued Audio-Technica ATR-35S Lavalier Microphone.Reading some blog advice about video podcasting and playing around a bit with making YouTube videos, "sound" in video is usually the part that makes video quality bad. So I was looking for a reasonably price lapel mic to use. The ATR-3350 is quite inexpensive considering that you can easily spend $200 for a professional model lapel mic.If you read some of the "1" (hate it) reviews from the ATR-35S, they pretty much all related to "low volume issues". You may see some similar reviews here as time goes on. Plugging the ATR-3350 directly into my Dell laptop PC mic in or camera mic in, I also thought the volume is not high enough. However, plugging it into my video camera, it sounded great. Just the right volume. Not too loud or soft.I went to the...

A lot better than expected
I use this for my rig with a Canon 5d MKII and a Zoom h4n. I have an L bracket attached to my camera then I attached this to the L bracket. The build quality is a lot better then expected. I was filming helicopter flight operations on a ship out in the ocean. This piece of gear held up to my expectations. While I intended on purchasing it to hold the Zoom audio recorder and microphones, I ended up trusting it with my 5D MKII, hanging off one of the rails on the ship as we took a sharp turn at full speed. While shooting on the flight deck, I was directly underneath a CH-46 helicopter as it was coming in for a landing. Anyone who has been there or seen the footage, knows that there is a lot of thrust that blows off the rotors. My camera with a 70-200mm 2.8 lens mounted on a tripod, ended up snapping the bolt that mounts to the camera from the base plate. But this thing held strong. If you want a cheap piece of gear to hold some audio equipment, or want to... Top to learn more

Ultra Clamp - Does what its intended to do very well
I got the Ultraclamp to mount a small digital camcorder on the frame of my motorcycle to shoot some scenic ride videos. (NOT crazy tricks). The clamp is very sturdy and holds quite well to the frame. It has a multitude of mounting configurations and angle adjustments.Overall I am very happy with it and it is built quite well. Top to learn more

Fantastic and one of a kind!
I used this clamp to suspend a microphone from the crossbars of a jeep. Its unique joints allow you to swivel 360 degrees in all three dimensions! What's more, the head of the screw is flat ended, intended for tables, but the curve on the top edge works really nicely for my purposes.Because the mic stays mounted on a moving (bouncing) vehicle, one of the joints tended to keep getting loose. Not a problem if you're stationary. My previous one mysteriously locked up though - maybe the threads of the screw oxidized. After much searching (I couldn't remember the make or model) I'm thrilled I finally found it again - there's nothing else configured like it. Just remember to clean it once in a while! A rugged and versatile POV cam - that's not just for extreme sports
Customer Video Review Length:: 2:29 MinsI've had a chance to play around with the new Drift HD170 Stealth camera for a few weeks now and made a quick video just to show a few things I've tried with it. What makes it "stealth," I guess, is the new sleek black design (the casing of the unit is made from a durable black rubberized plastic). The bright orange face of the older did likely call some attention to itself, and for some uses (i.e. stealth uses) that's a drawback. While the older model's bright colored face made it look fun, I think I do prefer the solid black and can see why they opted for it. The feature that makes this camera really stand out from other similar POV or "extreme sports" cameras, though, is the onboard LCD screen, that allows you to see what you are going to be capturing on the spot, so you can arrange the camera just... I've owned them all and this is the BEST by far!!
I've owned just about every helmet cam on the market and I even sell the GoPro HD Hero on my site and this is by far the best camera I've owned to date. The thing I like about it most is the ease of use. The menu is like any other PAS camera instead of hieroglyphics like the GoPro and yes I have the LCD on my GoPro and it's still a pain to use. It does take great video but no better than the drift.I love that I can adjust the mic on the drift and pretty much turn it off if I want to and I can add a remote mic. I have one but have yet to use it. No more clanking from the mount like the GoPro either. The battery outlast the GoPro and it seems to have great video compression. Long videos have pretty small file size. I took a 48:00 video and it was just under 3 gig.About the only thing I don't care for is the helmet mount. I haven't used it yet but it's not that clean of a mount, I do like the GoPro better for that. I wound up putting a RAM... Top to learn more

SONY - No Baloney
This Handycam has everything needed to be the most versatile of all of Sony's models with up-to-the-minute technology.I originally hesitated because this only has an internal flash memory of 16 GB. However, I have a few of the sony memory sticks (4GB) and having them as an option allows me to record as much time on this unit as I could usually want. It is true that with the internal flash memory your recording time is restricted to about 11 hours. However, each 4GB of memory stick prolongs that limit by about 3.5 hours and supplements the internal flash memory.I find the flash medium (and the memory sticks) to be preferrable to an internal hard drive (which can store 60 GB, but, are subject to mechanical failure). Although the hard drives will store 60GB, I... Top to learn more

Great Little Camcorder!!
I purchased this camera after discovering my 8-year-old camcorder no longer worked three days before my vacation. I received my camcorder the day before my trip and only had time to charge the battery and read some basic information. I found the camcorder user-friendly and easy to use right out of the box...and its small size makes handling very manageable. I love the huge 16 GB internal memory and I was able to record my entire trip. The LCD touch panel is fantastic! Although it would be nice if it was a little larger than 2.7", it was not at all difficult to see and use. If I recorded something I wanted to playback later, all I had to do was press a button on the touch panel; then touch the clip. Searching through recorded tape is a thing of the past. The video quality is very good. With that said, I am enjoying getting to know the other features of my camcorder. To anyone looking for a user-friendly and affordable camcorder, I highly recommend this one. Top to learn more
